The Post

LPFT are seeking to appoint a full time 10 PA Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry to provide Consultant Liaison input into the Mental Health Liaison Service (MHLS) which falls within the Older Adult and Frailty Division. This post has been newly created following successful bid to expand Old Age Liaison services and aims to provide specialist psychiatric assessment, triage and support and appropriate treatment to patients presenting with both mental and physical health symptoms regardless of age and presumed cause at the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust.

This post will cover two teams, the main team based in Lincoln (Lincoln County Hospital) and a much smaller team based in Grantham (Grantham District Hospital). Historically the input required into Grantham is a lot less compared to Lincoln.

It will be necessary also to see complex acute cases where required to help establish diagnosis and treatment plans. Close liaison with general medical and surgical ward colleagues as well as A&E colleagues will be important to improve patient care and outcomes.

The MHLS provides multi-disciplinary core 24 liaison psychiatry specialist input for 16+ years old patients who present to any United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) acute care hospital sites including Boston Pilgrim Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital. Grantham District Hospital currently has limited Liaison Psychiatry service due to A&E being downgraded to Urgent treatment service.
