We have an exciting opportunity for Trust Doctor (ST1-2 Equivalent) to work with us covering a gap in the rota for a fixed term period of 6 months from 04 August 2021 until 01 February 2022 in Emergency Medicine department at Whipps Cross Hospital.

Barts Health is the Largest NHS trust within the UK and comprises of three acute sites, Whipps Cross Hospital, Newham General Hospital with the tertiary centre being The Royal London Hospital. The Trust is structured with site based Clinical and Medical Directors. Whipps Cross University Hospital is the District General Hospital for Waltham Forest and sees over 100,000 Emergency patients with another 30,000 seen in a co-located Urgent care Centre.

Full GMC registration will be required for these posts. The post holders will be expected to attend all junior teaching sessions and support will also be provided for portfolio development. A clinical supervisor will be allocated. Successful applicants will be offered study leave and funding for relevant courses will be supported.

These posts are designed to augment the Emergency service offered by Barts Health at Whipps Cross Hospital. It is not envisaged that the successful applicants with be working cross sites at this current moment in time.

There are opportunities within the site to develop skills in critical care, Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Emergency Ultrasound.

The site at Whipps Cross Hospital sees approximately 100,000 attendances a year (25% of which are Paediatrics). It is housed in a new build which was completed approximately 5 years ago, which has a dedicated 6 bedded resuscitation room, an area for early assessment, as well as the traditional minors, majors and paediatric areas.

The site also has a dedicated Clinical Decision Unit with a dedicated Paediatric CDU to be built, with work scheduled to be to be commencing within the next 8 weeks. Furthermore the site has a 52 bedded acute assessment unit, with a co-located ambulatory care unit, as well as a dedicated frail elderly assessment unit.

At the front door to the Emergency Department we have a co-located Primary Care GP lead urgent care Centre, which means this Emergency Department sees emergencies and not primary care patients. We have retained minors in the proper sense and offer a full array of clinical exposure.
