Come and work with an enthusiastic team of pathologists in Tayside, on the doorstep to the Highlands

Applications are invited for 2 consultant posts in the Cellular Pathology Department, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. These are full time (10 PAs) posts, but applicants wishing to work part time will be considered. The department is in a position to offer a degree of flexibility with working patterns, including condensed full time. Extra programmed activities may also be available by negotiation

The Pathology service has a varied workload, with long established sub-specialisation, and you will join an enthusiastic team of twelve other NHS Consultants and one honorary Consultant

For the first post, special interests in urological and / or gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary pathology are sought

For the second post, those with a specialist interest in lymphoreticular pathology are sought, along with commitment to another specialty area or a more generalised contribution. Further training towards a gradual assumption of this subspecialty focus would be strongly supported for the right candidate

Ranked 1st in the UK for medicine in the Complete University Guide 2021 and the Guardian University Guide 2021, the University of Dundee Medical School is integrated into the Ninewells Hospitals campus and has an international reputation for excellence in teaching and high impact clinical research that places it amongst the best places in the world to study and to practice medicine

The department is also undertaking ambitious modernisation in areas of digital pathology, laboratory information management system and molecular pathology. There are excellent opportunities for research both within the Department and with other research groups within the Hospital and University. There are also opportunities to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and on this basis, it is expected that the University of Dundee will accord an appropriate honorary appointment

With a track record in biomedical research, the “City of Discovery” is now also emerging as a city of culture. The opening of the spectacular V&A design museum on the recently redeveloped waterfront, the Wall Street Journal branded Dundee “Scotland’s coolest city”. Property prices in the area are extremely competitive, the cost of living is low and there is wide access to a variety of school options and good extracurricular provision. There is spectacular countryside surrounding Dundee, including the highlands to the North and the varied coastline to the East. So there is ready access to outdoor pursuits. Sports clubs and fitness facilities are plentiful. Rich musical offerings are available from Dundee’s lively band scene, with a wealth of classical and folk music housed at venues like the Caird Hall, Perth Concert Hall and the Slessor Gardens on the new waterfront development

Inquiries and further discussion with the clinical lead and existing teams is welcomed. The successful candidate(s) should hold the FRCPath or equivalent. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register with a Licence to Practice and be in possession of, or be within 6 months of obtaining, CCT in Histopathology at the time of the interview

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
