We are looking to appoint a consultant with a specialist interest in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery to our Trauma and Orthopaedic department. Our region serves the population of Dundee city, Angus, Perth City, Perthshire and North Fife. Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee is designated as one of the four Major Trauma Units in Scotland with a dedicated ward, team and rehab facility to provide the best care to our multiple injured patients. The main location of the post will be in this tertiary centre, with children’s clinics in Perth Royal Infirmary too. A brand new £18.3 million state of the art children’s theatre suite is nearing completion and set to be opened at the end of 2021. There are 21 consultants in Tayside, 12 of them provide out of hours cover with additional 4 colleagues sharing in the trauma provision (1:12 rota). Most of the unscheduled care and all paediatric operating are provided at Ninewells Hospital. Adult Elective activity is performed at Perth Royal and Stracathro Hospital. Advanced plans are drawn up to build a new state-of- the-art elective adult treatment centre at Perth Royal, which provides an exciting opportunity to develop our elective services.

Tayside also offers a great professional challenge to those interested in academia. The department enjoys close links with the University Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics (UDOTS), which hosts a well renowned and established MChOrth course, and the Medical School with whom we organise the undergraduate MSK teaching throughout the medical curriculum. We are home to the East of Scotland Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery training program with 16 Specialty Trainees and take pride in the quality of our postgraduate training and trainees.

Tayside has an abundance of choice with regards to housing and schooling, with both excellent public and private education options. It is a region of outstanding natural beauty, from the North Sea coast in the east to the highs of the Cairngorm Mountains to the west. Our region is exceptionally well suited to an active and outdoor lifestyle. Working in Tayside can offer a great work-life balance.
