You will be fully supported by a thriving and friendly department and will be encouraged to take forward service and academic development

Lancashire Teaching Hospital has a tertiary neonatal, gynaecological oncology and endometriosis service. There is a thriving out-patient operative hysteroscopy clinic, laparoscopic surgery and Robotic surgery.

The Department is made up of a team of 14 consultants, 3 of whom are Gynae-oncologists, 3 covering purely Obstetrics and the remaining 8 covering both obstetrics and gynaecology with a variety of special interests. These include ambulatory gynaecology both therapeutic and diagnostic, benign laparoscopic surgery, endometriosis surgery, urogynaecology and fertility services.

Main duties of the job

This post is 10 PAs as set out in the Job plan below (subject to discussion). This is an example only and exact distribution of PA will depend on the successful applicants skills and interests.

All consultants are expected to work productively for 42 weeks a year and will be required to undertake annual appraisal, revalidation and job planning within their allocated contractual SPA time (1.5 SPA per week). Any SPA activity over 1.5 will be in line with the trust SPA tariff and will be reviewed as part of the annual job planning process.

The successful applicant will provide obstetric on call cover with a gynaecological oncologist providing gynaecology on call cover. There is no gynaecology theatre allocation in this post.

About us

Preston, in the Heart of Lancashire, has been rated the best city in the North West to live and work. It is surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty and has easy access to the motorway and rail network and the cities of Manchester and Liverpool. There is a wide choice of excellent schools around the area.

The trust has an award winning Leadership and Development Programme and all new consultants are encouraged to enrol on the Consultant Stretch course. Clinical Leadership is considered a vital part of the Strategy and Development in the trust.

We also recognise the importance of mentorship in your first few years and will provide you with a mentor either within or outside the department.

Many of the consultants have an additional medical school or post-graduate teaching role. This is welcomed and any additional training supported.
