Job Details
Do you share our health board values; Caring for each other; working together; always improving? If so we would love for you to come and work for SBU HB.
We seek to appoint a full-time cardiology TAVI fellow for 1 year.
Morriston Hospital currently performs around 150-200 TAVI's per annum using the Edwards and Portico systems predominantly with the vast majority of cases performed under local anaesthetic via the transfemoral approach. Surgical access TAVI is supported by our vascular and cardiothoracic surgical teams. 5 Consultant cardiologists deliver the procedural service, Professor Dave Smith, (TAVI lead), Professor Alex Chase (TAVI/PCI), Dr Ayush Khurana (TAVI/PCI), Dr Dan Obaid (TAVI/PCI) and Dr Ahmed Hailan (TAVI/ PCI). In addition to TAVI there is a growing structural programme including paravalvar leak closure and depending on time commitments there may be opportunities to be involved in these cases.
The fellow can expect to become competent in all aspects of TAVI pre- procedural, procedural and post procedural care including CT assessment and planning, outpatient & MDT review, ultrasound guided vascular puncture, valve deployment, percutaneous vascular closure (Proglide and Manta) and post procedural care. In addition to excellent clinical and procedural training all fellows are expected to participate in our departmental research programme and educational programmes, present at national and international conferences, and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
We would welcome applications from candidates who have completed their SpR interventional or structural cardiology training and are about to start looking for consultant grade positions (or equivalent). For suitably qualified post CCT fellows there may be an opportunity to maintain PCI skills by joining the Primary PCI rota. Applications from candidates who are earlier in their SPR training will also be considered.
