These positions are suitable for candidates who may wish to pursue a career in anaesthetics and who might wish to sample the specialty or to gain experience in order to strengthen their application to a CT rotation. Alternatively they might suit candidates who wish to pursue a complementary specialty in which anaesthetics experience is required. Previous experience in the speciality is not required.
Main duties of the job
These positions will be treated in the same manner as our CT1 positions.
The supervision of the Trust Grade Doctors is shared between all Consultants. The majority of your clinical time will be allocated to theatre sessions under the supervision of a Senior Anaesthetist.
An initial three month supernumerary period will be necessary with this time being utilised to achieve the competencies laid out by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Upon successful completion of these, the doctor will be expected to provide on-call services to the Theatre line of the rota. On-site consultant supervision is provided until 21:00. After this time, cases going to theatre will be discussed with the on-call ITU or obstetric registrar in the first instance for ASA1 or 2 cases and theatre consultant anaesthetist as appropriate.
If not busy in theatres, it is expected that the doctor will offer to assist the anaesthetists covering Critical Care or Obstetrics.
