Fed up with City life?
Come and escape to the wonderful South Island: Judith, Patrick, Jayne, Myrto, Louay, Marie, Dom and our salaried doctors and ANPs did, and are still loving it!
The Isle of Wight is England’s largest Island, just off the South coast, and near, but not too near, Southampton and Portsmouth. We are a large innovative, training practice based in the Island’s capital, Newport, serving the centre of the Island. 25000 patients, we are in two gorgeous converted buildings, one with views of Carisbrooke castle from our penthouse coffee room – though rapidly moving towards a new surgery to fit twenty first century primary health care needs.
Innovative: we were ahead of the game with the use of ANPs, especially in staffing our acute hub for on the day patients. We utilise support from in house mental health practitioner, social prescriber, clinical pharmacists and musculoskeletal practitioner – who see many of our patients in place of a GP. We have adjusted slickly to the model of total telephone triage: modest (but still enough to provide the safe essential personal service) face to face contact and very infrequent home visiting. Our ANPs support our residential homes, though we have the youngest patient population on the Island.
Training: two trainers, as well as foundation supervisors. We learn lots from our trainees and previous trainees have become partners. We also supervise foundation doctors and host medical, Physician Associate and Nursing students.
Whole island CCG, general hospital based in Newport, with most secondary care available on island, but close links to Southampton and Portsmouth hospitals.
The island: yes, we know you came here on a school trip when you were a kid. But there is so much more: sailing, surfing, cycling, walking, wonderful beaches and countryside, music festivals, arts and cultural festivals, or just sitting in the sun in what is one of the sunniest parts of the UK. Property is reasonably priced and there are some stunning houses. Choice of state or private schools, on island or close by on the mainland if you prefer. There are good links to the mainland – if you really want to go there. In fact, the quickest foot crossing is less than 15minutes.
You: partner or salaried, full, part time or portfolio doctor - as an additional partner in the practice. We are in the lucky position of being able to wait for the right candidate.
