Advanced Trainee, and Provisional Fellow Positions in Intensive Care Medicine

Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia’s largest major health and medical research precincts and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney Local Health District providing district level health services to Parramatta, Holroyd and The Hills Shire LGAs including tertiary and quaternary services to greater Western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. The Westmead Health Precinct currently under development is envisaged to be the largest hospital building project undertaken in Western Sydney and will transform the iconic but ageing Westmead Hospital into an innovative, contemporary, and integrated centre that will continue to deliver high quality healthcare and expand the education, health, and research capability of the area.
Intensive care service in Westmead hospital includes 36 general, and 10 cardiothoracic surgical ICU beds. Common ICU admissions include complex medical cases such as sepsis, severe respiratory or cardiac failure, complicated bone marrow and kidney transplant, and surgical cases including trauma, neurosurgery, vascular, cardiothoracic, ENT, plastic surgery, urology, upper GI, hepatobiliary, and colorectal procedures.
Intensive care advanced trainees and provisional fellows are expected to have the knowledge and skills required to initiate and maintain supportive care for critically ill patients under the direct and indirect supervision of an intensive care consultant. Competency in routine ICU procedures and airway management is essential. Within ICU and on outreach service advanced trainees and provisional fellows work as a member of the ICU team.
Applications are welcome from suitably qualified medical practitioners, at minimum in their 4th post-graduation year, with training and work experience in critical care and/or anaesthesia. For provisional fellow position more seniority and independence in clinical practice is expected.
Salary will be according to NSW health JMO award, registrar level, based on applicant’s seniority. Position commencement date is in August 2021. However, it may be negotiated for the suitable applicants.
