Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics
Full Time: 10 Sessions
Anticipated Start Date: To be agreed
Based at The Grange University Hospital
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a permanent Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics at The Grange University Hospital (GUH) in Cwmbran, South-East Wales. This new state of the art development opened in November 2020 providing first class facilities for the Health Board’s population including a centralised acute intake service for paediatric patients across specialties. There is an integrated Children’s Emergency Assessment Unit comprising 16 assessment spaces, with close working with the Emergency Department team. Adjacent is the Short Stay Unit, 2 bedded stabilisation and High Dependency area, and 48 bedded inpatient ward.
The responsibilities of the post holder include Middle Grade level (Tier 2) duties. You will join a group of Paediatric trainees and existing Specialty Doctor on the rota. You will also have the opportunity to run ward weeks, develop your own special interest with the provision of clinics, study leave and supervision.

The successful candidate will have training opportunities as per Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health curriculum and will be encouraged to take part in teaching, training and higher paediatric exams. ABUHB will be highly flexible to the needs of individual candidates towards their career progression such as obtaining MRCPCH (UK) and CESR in line with the service requirements. ABUHB has a very good track record with high MRCPCH (UK) pass rates and training courses for MRCPCH clinical examinations. There is dedicated study fund to support with training which will need to be discussed with your supervisor. Audit and QI projects will be a requirement of the post and those interested in research can be supported by a local dedicated research lead.
Relocation packages are available to successful candidates, and any candidate who will require this support will need to alert the Health Board at the interview stage.
