We are excited to invite applications for this new post, where you will join our team of five other Endocrinologists.

We provide an extensive range of services for the specialist diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with diabetes, endocrine and obesity problems. This includes the regional Tier 3 medical weight management service, feeding into our Tier 4 surgical service. Weight management work covers complex obesity for the whole of the Southwest and includes the management of post-bariatric surgery complications. We provide an insulin pump service and co-ordinate a successful cross-Trust multidisciplinary specialist diabetes foot service. We provide a large pituitary service, connecting with that National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery Pituitary MDT.

You will be expected to develop a particular interest in specialist aspects of diabetes, endocrinology and obesity management in the outpatient setting. There are opportunities for you to be involved in specialist services according to your interests, in particular within the medical antenatal service supporting the current lead for antenatal diabetes services. Opportunities to develop an additional specialist interest(s) would be given strong consideration.

You will also be expected to participate in the running of inpatient general medical (ward) services and contribute to the acute medicine on call rota. The trust is also working towards 7 day working and the successful candidate would be expected to participate in this when it commences.

Musgrove Park is a successful and progressive District General Hospital, the largest in Somerset, with an excellent reputation for providing a comprehensive range of medical, surgical and specialist services. Work is currently underway on a new £80 million surgical, critical care centre and acute assessment hub, with a further £450 million funding earmarked for Musgrove Park Hospital as part of the Government’s health and infrastructure plan. This is an exciting opportunity to improve facilities and models of care within diabetes and endocrinology in Somerset over the next 10 years.
