We are recruiting for a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthetics or Emergency Medicine or Acute Medicine to join our highly motivated, dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary, five star patient acute care.

The Intensive Care Unit hosts 8 level 3 beds and 6 level 2 beds with the flexibility to increase the number of level 3 beds (up to 11). A Medical and Nurse Consultant-Led Critical Care outreach and Medical Emergency Team (MET) are well established, with a regular rehabilitation service and follow-up clinic for patients discharged from Critical Care.

Consultants in Clinical Biochemistry, Plastics and Burns, Microbiology and Radiology join the multidisciplinary (MDT) meeting once a week and there is an excellent working relationship with all other specialty consultants.

The vast majority of admissions (approximately 800/year) are emergency cases. There is a wide range of General Medicine, Surgical, Urological, ENT and Orthopaedic/Trauma cases. Whiston hospital hosts the regional burns and plastic surgery unit and offers excellent experience in the management of the critically ill burns patient. The unit has extensive expertise in burns management, ventilation for ARDS, renal replacement therapy, etc.

The Unit is extremely active in original and NIHR portfolio research, and provides data to ICNARC regularly.

Applicants must be eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment.

Applicants must have entry on the GMC Specialist Register via one of the following:

  1. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
    (The proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview)
  2. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
    (CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation upon successful application).
