Cambridgeshire & Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting
opportunity for a Substantive Consultant Psychiatrist to join the
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Community Adult Eating Disorder Service.

This is a 1.0 WTE substantive Consultant post to provide clinical leadership
and hold clinical responsibility for outpatients in the Community Adult Eating
Disorder Service for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. We are encouraging
applicants who wish to consider a less than WTE post.

The Eating disorder service (EDS) was established in 2004. It is part of the
Adult division within CPFT. It currently offers treatment for patients age 18
years and older with moderate to severe eating disorders registered with
GP practices in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG. The Service
aims to implement an early intervention model and will then offer rapid
access to treatment for adult patients with a recent onset of symptoms,
irrespective of severity.

The current team delivers evidence-based treatments within a recovery model of care. We work using a motivational approach with patients to empower them in taking ownership of their recovery. To promote recovery, positive risk taking and effective risk management are essential. We work closely with a number of partners: primary care, to manage risk, CAMHS Eating Disorder Service to facilitate seamless transitions, the personality disorder service and locality teams in working with people with complex needs, Cambridge University and non-statutory services.

The Service aspires to be innovative and dynamic. We have been awarded
transformation funding to become a comprehensive, leading-edge service.
We hope to minimise obstacles in accessing treatment by accepting
self-referrals and treating patients rapidly and safely. Our new treatment
pathways include an early intervention pathway, a high-risk pathway that
includes medical monitoring and a stability and support pathway for patients
with severe and enduring eating disorders. We will be offering intensive
outreach community-based interventions. We are developing a robust
pathway with acute hospitals in order to facilitate timely safe access to
medical wards for our patients. This will provide the opportunity for liaison
with physicians and acute care teams.

The medical monitoring of eating disorders is an essential part of risk
management and is part of the responsibility of our Team. There is a robust
medical monitoring team including nursing staff, HCAs, GP and a specialty
grade doctor.

The Service will become a pioneer in the care of eating disorders and
there are many opportunities to be involved in the transformation,
working creatively in a well-resourced service and develop a stimulating
leadership role.
