This is an exciting time of Transformation of mental health services in Suffolk, which has created opportunities, not only for services to recognise and consolidate what they are doing well, but also to drive creativity to radically change service delivery. These changes are driven by the needs of local communities, with the aim of embedding mental health services within the community and truly bringing the expertise to where it is needed.

We are looking for a Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist to develop the under 18s First response, Liaison and crisis outreach offer alongside our expanding mental health liaison team based at Ipswich Hospital. Successful candidates will join our Suffolk CFYP care group and will link with our colleagues across NSFT and acute hospital services, including CYP crisis outreach.

Main duties of the job

From working alongside colleagues in the A&E department, to in-reaching to the wards, supporting substance misuse colleagues and liaising with other mental health professionals, you will work across the service supporting Children and Adolescent presenting in crisis to the acute hospital with mental health issues.

If you are interested in taking on a senior leadership role or developing leadership skills, there is also an opportunity to join the Norfolk CFYP services leadership team as an Associate Clinical Director alongside one of our Consultant posts. Our services are rapidly developing in response to the current challenges and this is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to making significant improvements for young people in Norfolk. The role would be fully job planned and attracts an additional payment of 10% of the salary.

Job responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to join the rapidly expanding Crisis Pathway in East Suffolk, due to be CORE 24 by April 2020. There has been a considerable amount of focus and interest in liaison and crisis services by commissioners, and the successful candidate will be joining the department at a crucial period of positive service development. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with managers on directly influencing the delivery of crisis services for children and adolescents.

Experience
Essential

  • Experience of the assessment and treatment of complex mental disorders in a relevant population Experience of providing medical leadership in multi-disciplinary teams Experience of clinical governance processes including ability to use quality improvement methods as a tool to improve quality of care Experience in risk assessment and risk management

Desirable

  • Sub-speciality experience relevant to the clinical role Relevant sub-specialty endorsement Experience of multiagency working relevant to the role Experience of building great teams
