We are looking for a Consultant to join the  Paediatric services within Gwent which has been re-designed, with an expanding community paediatric workforce and a new specialist critical care centre, where acute services are based. This is an exciting time to join the department and we are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic paediatrician to fill this replacement post in Newport. Many of your duties will be undertaken at Serennu Children’s Centre, which provides healthcare and leisure activities for children and young people with a disability or developmental difficulties throughout south Gwent.

You will be medical advisor for South East Wales Adoption Service (SEWAS) East, covering the boroughs of Monmouthshire, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent. You will have General Community Paediatric responsibilities including Child Development and Disability, working within the ISCAN (Integrated Service for Children with Additional Needs) team in south Gwent, along with 2 other consultants and an associate specialist.

You will contribute to the pan Gwent Child Protection Rota (Monday – Friday only, with no out of hours responsibilities), with medical examinations currently performed at Serennu Children’s Centre. For appropriately qualified applicants there will be an opportunity to contribute to the colposcopy rota, undertaking assessments of possible historic child sexual abuse, with examinations undertaken at Nevill Hall Children’s Centre in Abergavenny.

Both Cardiff and Bristol are within 30 minutes’ drive from Newport, and the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and Gower Peninsula are all easily accessible for great recreational opportunities.

Applicants without a driving license must be able to travel between health board premises within a reasonable timescale to fulfill the requirements of the post

 This position involves Regulated Activity with children Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC

Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.
