Three clinical leads in systemic anti-cancer therapy, radiotherapy and haemato-oncology sought for the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service at Public Health England (3 x 1PA)

We are seeking to recruit up to three outstanding individuals to be clinical leads for the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS) in Public Health England (PHE) to support our analytical work.  We are keen to hear from individuals who bring robust expertise related to systemic anti-cancer therapy, radiotherapy and haemato-oncology.

Disease registration is central to public health and healthcare. PHE’s NCRAS is one of the largest, most advanced and complex cancer data curation services anywhere in the world. We provide expert analysis and interpretation of the data and use it as a source of intelligence for patients, clinicians, public health, health-care performance, basic and applied research, and commissioning and industrial partners.

We are looking for experts to bring clinical leadership to NCRAS, helping us shape our strategic vision for how our data can support and improve patient care. As clinical lead, you will advise on important clinical questions that can be answered using our data and champion our datasets, analyses and other outputs. You will help us horizon scan and be aware of emerging trends or opportunities that may impact on our future priorities and objectives. You will support projects looking to improve data flows and data quality, as well as help us to establish and strengthen closer partnerships with academics, clinicians, colleagues in the public and the third sector, as well as in industry and other organisations.

You will strengthen our internal analytical capability, helping to scope new project proposals of clinically driven questions, provide clinical insight to interpret findings and produce peer-reviewed papers and other outputs, including national statistics, and cancer information tools.

You will be a recognised expert in your field, with a track-record of having led projects that resulted in significant outputs, for example analyses that have informed and changed clinical/public health practice.  You will need to have a good understanding of NHS practice, and ideally an appreciation of the complexities of NHS data flows.

NCRAS has led on multiple projects during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, including treatment activity dashboards and developing a rapid cancer registration dataset, to support continuation, restoration and recovery of cancer services.  As clinical lead, you will help us drive further COVID-19 related projects to continue supporting clinical decision making, service planning & recovery and enabling vital research in this area.

We will provide funding to buy-out individual PAs (1PA per post) to be negotiated with the substantive employer to fit with the individual’s job plan. We will provide administrative support and reimburse reasonable travel expenses; appointments would be for one year in the first instance.
Should you wish to have an informal discussion, please contact Dr Martine Bomb, Head of Data Projects, National Disease Registration Service at PHE (martine.bomb@phe.gov.uk).
