One the most diverse providers of NHS mental and physical care in the UK, West London NHS Trust provides care and treatment for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.  We deliver a range of mental health, physical healthcare and community services commissioned locally and nationally; as well as running Broadmoor Hospital, one of only three high secure hospitals in the country and one of the highest profile mental healthcare settings in the world.  A teaching trust with a growing research portfolio we are rated “Good” overall by the CQC, and “Outstanding” for caring; and our Forensic services have improved from ‘Requires improvement’ to ‘Outstanding’.  We are proud of our journey of improvement and growth over the last two years which has included the expansion of our service portfolio in 2019 to encompass the leadership of community services in the Borough of Ealing and beyond.

Navigation of this journey and realisation of change has only been made possible with the dedication, commitment and engagement of our 3,770 staff, more of whom than ever would recommend us a place of work.   The Trust has won national awards for its workforce programmes linked to Black and Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff development programmes and a new system for a fairer allocation of shifts and, more recently, for workforce innovation to improve staff recognition.  Last year we were shortlisted for ‘Mental Health Trust of the Year’ by the Health Service Journal.  Our values underpin all that we do and shape our approach to driving transformation through greater co-production and a commitment to working in an increasingly collaborative manner with commissioners and wider system partners.  We are a Trust with genuine ambition and a clear vision - to be the best organisation of our kind in the country - an outstanding healthcare provider, committed to improving quality, and caring with compassion.

We are seeking a Medical Director to contribute as a member of the Trust Board and Executive Team.  This is a key leadership role, instrumental in shaping the development of clinical strategy that will underpin the continued transformation of the Trust; and for providing expert advice to the Chief Executive and Board of Directors.  The appointed individual will take lead responsibility for clinical engagement and leadership within the organisation and will work closely with fellow Executives, in particular the Director of Nursing, to ensure full engagement of our clinical teams and an unwavering focus on quality improvement. With our focus on ensuring that care is personal to every individual, our transformation has been underpinned by a commitment to working in an increasingly collaborative manner with wider health and social care partners.  We are an active and effective partner in the North West London Integrated Care System; and the Medical Director will be a key contributor on this platform – ensuring that as a Trust we develop and maintain strong relationships with partners, participate in key decisions and shape improved clinical pathways for the people in our community.

The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership across the entirety of our service portfolio which is organised into two clinical service units - local and specialist services; and forensic and high secure services.  The diversity of this portfolio is significant and as such we are seeking an experienced, qualified (MRCPsych) clinical leader, able to demonstrate a track record of successfully leading multi professional teams across dispersed and diverse services.  Experience of developing an organisational culture that promotes clinical engagement in decision making and leading continuous change and improvement in services, you will be collegiate and collaborative in your approach and adept at inspiring front line staff to realise change. Above all else we are seeking an individual whose personal values mirror our own and whose priorities are firmly focussed on developing and delivering outstanding services that are accessible to all.
