Consultant Learning Disability Psychiatrist with 2.5 protected PAs for your area of interest.

We have some new and exciting opportunities in our Learning Disability community services across Suffolk as we enter the start of a service redesign and we are looking for Consultant Psychiatrists, ideally with Learning Disability experience, who are interested in joining and be part of the transformation of our service, we are able to shape our services. This post is part time (0.7 WTE).

The Learning Disability and Autism Specialist Service is not only being invested in financially, with a fresh approach to ideas and service delivery being supported by the Trust, we are confident our new model of care is the very best for the people we care for.

The Post

Title: Consultant PsychiatristSpecialty: Learning Disability Psychiatry West Suffolk Community and Inpatients

Job SummaryWe are seeking a consultant psychiatrist to join our West Suffolk Learning disability and Community Suffolk inpatient service teams.

Description of the Post

This post is based in F Block on the Hospital Road site, Bury St Edmunds. Clinicalwork will take place at G Block, on the same site, but may also take place in anotherTrust location or other community destinations such as at service user's home. The inpatient service is based at Walker Close, Ipswich.

The service provides secondary care service for adults age 18 upwards residing in the West Suffolk catchment area. The team receives referrals from Bury St Edmunds, Sudbury, Haverhill, Thetford, Newmarket and the surrounding villages. There is approximately a general population of 237,031 registered with a GP in the area. The team holds a current caseload of 150 and receives an average of 4-5 new referrals a month.

There are two part time substantive Consultant Psychiatrist posts for this team. The post holder will carry responsibility for inpatients within their community caseload (approximately 1-2 patients) and support them along the community and acute pathway to create the most least restrictive treatment based on STOMP guidelines and the philosophy of NHS Transforming Care.

Inpatient services are provided in a newly refurbished 6-bedded unit in Ipswich which is 30 miles from base. The team is also supported by the Intensive Support service, which deals with all crisis referrals from 7.30am to 9pm with a proposed on-call service thereafter. The Intensive Support team deals with all emergency Mental Health Act referrals and A&E liaison calls.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership to the community and inpatient teams and work collaboratively with all MDT members and other learning disability service staff. The role provides clinical assessment and reviews of patients in discussion with the team, especially patients thought to be at high risk, those presenting with complex problems or those with diagnostic uncertainty.

While primarily responsible for delivering a quality clinical service, the consultant psychiatrist is also expected to be actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services, being involved with the team manager and service lead in helping to steer the development of the service in line with the strategic direction of the organisation.

 

Person Specification Experience Essential

  • Experience of the assessment and treatment of complex mental disorders in a relevant population Experience of providing medical leadership in multi-disciplinary teams Experience of clinical governance processes including ability to use quality improvement methods as a tool to improve quality of care Experience in risk assessment and risk management

Desirable

  • Sub-speciality experience relevant to the clinical role Experience of building great teams Experience of multiagency working relevant to the role

Qualifications Essential

  • GMC MRCPsych or Equivalent Approved Clinician and Section 12 Approval under MHA

Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree (i.e. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications) Substantive experience at consultant level in the relevant specialism
