Where are we?

Hobart is a vibrant small city, and the capital of the state of Tasmania, nestled on the foothills between mountain and sea. Tasmania offers multiple opportunities to balance work with life –world heritage wilderness, outstanding bush walking, climbing, mountain biking, boating, surfing, food, wine, and arts. Combined with a temperate climate, an excellent standard of living and easy proximity to large mainland cities, this makes Hobart an ideal lifestyle choice.

Additionally, our hospitals have been Covid-free for many months. Our small island status afforded us the privilege of excluding the virus with minimal impact on acute health services. We maintain freedom of movement not presently seen in much of the world.

Our Intensive Care Unit.

DCCM has 23 beds and is the tertiary referral ICU for the island state of Tasmania. We receive all major trauma, burns, cardiac surgical and neurosurgery patients from across the state. DCCM is a true general ICU with a really broad case-mix, offering great experience and excellence for training.

DCCM is accredited with The College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand CICM - Home for 24 months tertiary ICU time. We have an excellent teaching program with proven CICM exam success.  More details can be found RHH Registrars - ICU | Careers (
