Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist (2 Posts)
Applications are invited for two substantive Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist posts in Aberdeen. This is an opportunity to be part of a growing team of Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetists based at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.
The advertised posts are whole time equivalent replacement posts with 8 Direct Clinical Care programmed activities and 2 Supporting Programmed Activities.
Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital provides high quality, acute and comprehensive care for children up to the age of 16 years from the Grampian region in the North-East of Scotland, as well as from the Orkney and Shetland Islands. It is the the regional Paediatric Oncology provider and is a Paediatric Major Trauma Centre. A business case to expand the service has been recently submitted in order to accommodate for the increasing demands.
Aberdeen is an affluent, friendly and vibrant city, combining all the amenities of a large city with easy access to spectacular surrounding countryside. This, along with a track record of excellent secondary and further education, makes it an ideal base for those with families.
Aberdeen has a large Anaesthetic department which covers a comprehensive range of clinical services and caters for well-structured undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training programmes. The department is also recognised for its expanding research activity and for its support for a wide range of local, regional and national professional activities. The medical school, a state of the art clinical skills centre and several renowned research institutes and centres are also on site which offers a unique opportunity for collaboration and for the development of strong research and teaching interests.
The posts are being advertised at an exciting time for NHS Grampian with so many recent and planned developments on the Foresterhill site including the Baird Family Hospital and the new Elective Care Centre. Moreover, with Aberdeen becoming the first Major Trauma Centre in Scotland and the establishment of a new hub for emergency medical retrival services, there are excellent opportunities for an enthusiastic appointee to develop interests in a wide choice of areas.
Applications from candidates wishing to work on part time basis will be considered. It will also be possible to accommodate more flexible working arrangements including annualised job plans and job sharing.
Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
