Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist for ADHD Service

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist for ADHD Service. This new post has arisen from a new investment in Community Adult Mental Health Services within Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, following the merger of Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and Somerset Partnership Trust.

This new service aims at providing a team of skilled clinicians for the diagnosis and management of patients with ADHD. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Psychiatrist to be part of a team that will set up and shape this Service, whilst providing medical leadership alongside operational managers.

A key aspect of this role will be to provide medical leadership for this new service and support its ongoing development. You will work closely with Medical Managers and Operational Managers to further develop this service. Whilst there are no direct Inpatient, Home Treatment or Liaison Psychiatry duties, you will be expected to support clinical teams with advice on complex cases.

This post is county wide, however you can choose to be based in the following areas (Mendip, Yeovil, Minehead or Bridgwater) as you will be able to attend relevant meetings and conduct outpatient appointments via Skype. You will also be able to carry out administration remotely through the benefit of remote prescribing and using dictation software such a “Winscribe”. The total catchment area population is around 140,000 with current referral rates of 3-5 cases per week countrywide.

You are encouraged to apply to this post as 0.5 WTE role or as a full time post in conjugation with other currently advertised 0.5 WTE consultant psychiatric posts.

We are delighted to announce that in November 2020 Somerset FT was shortlisted for the mental health trust of the year award in the widely acclaimed HSJ Awards. It follows a series of initiatives that we’ve introduced that have changed the way we develop and plan our mental health services – by listening to and involving patients themselves. The HSJ judges said they were looking for trusts which offer excellent, patient-centric care built on strong engagement between clinicians within and beyond the organisation.
