Consultant Radiologist with interest in Breast Imaging (1 Post)

Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) invites applications for a Consultant Radiologists with a subspecialist interest in Breast imaging to join our cohesive, energetic and supportive team of 25 Consultant Radiologists. The Trust is committed to sustained development of breast imaging services. The department can accommodate candidates where Breast Radiology is their sole subspecialty or those who wish to combine Breast imaging with general radiology or other subspecialties.

This is a replacement post and offers flexible annualised job planning. We are in the process of rolling out optional home working.

If a newly appointed consultants, the successful applicant will be eligible to apply for additional study leave to undertake up to 3 months additional subspecialty radiology training to meet specific learning objectives that are of benefit to the applicant and the Clinical Imaging Directorate at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

The Mermaid Breast imaging centre is a bespoke dedicated stand-alone unit within the acute trust. You would join an existing team of 3 Consultant Breast Radiologists, two Breast Clinicians and a Consultant Breast Radiographer.

The unit was recently inspected (September 2018) as part of the NHSBSP QA and received substantial praise for the quality of service provided. In addition the Clinical Imaging department was recently rated as outstanding by the Care Quality commission in December 2018. The department has also been recently successful in retaining QSI accreditation in November 2020.

RCHT is a large teaching hospital, serving a population of 550,000. The Clinical Imaging Directorate consistently meets diagnostic and treatment targets, delivers a 7 day imaging service and 24/7 on-call diagnostic radiology services with a separate 24/7 interventional radiology on call rota.

The Trust building a new imaging & oncology centre (including 2 new MRI scanners with space for a third) and has received £100m for a new Women & Children's centre.

Cornwall is a beautiful county which offers an outstanding quality of life and providing many opportunities for outdoor activities, with its sailing waters, surfing beaches and rugged coastal pathways for walking, and cycling. There is a thriving arts and theatre scene as well as an interesting variety of eating places, including celebrity-owned restaurants within Cornwall. The major route both in and out of the county is the A30 which connects with the M5 motorway at Exeter. There are rail services with daily passenger and sleeper services and an airport at Newquay with daily connections to many cities throughout the UK and abroad.

Applicants are required to be on the GMC Register, or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / EU equivalent certification training and experience at the time of interview.
