Consultant in Acute Medicine and Stroke Medicine
Due to retirement, we are excited to announce an excellent opportunity to join our A-rated (SSNAP) stroke team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
This is a replacement 10 PA post, which will provide an excellent opportunity for you to help develop the expanding stroke service with the creation of new ISDN in the region, and support our research collaboration with the University of Reading. The job also offers flexibility if you are an acute medical physician or geriatrician, who would like to keep your interest in the parent specialty.
The Royal Berkshire Hospital Foundation Trust was the first Foundation Trust in the South Central Strategic Health Authority. We are one of the largest general hospital Trusts in the country and Reading’s biggest employer. The Trust has a successful track record of delivering high quality acute medical and surgical services for a population of more than 500,000.
Our stroke unit has 30 beds including 6 high monitoring beds in HASU and is co-located with a fully equipped therapy gym to enable easy access to the patients. Our service is one of the top centres in the UK for the fastest door to needle time for thrombolysis. We are also pioneers in incorporating artificial intelligence and digital technology in the care of stroke patients. We work in close collaboration with the regional neuroscience centres in Oxford and Charing Cross.
You will be fully integrated into the department, working with the current team of 4 stroke physicians and 4 neurologists, who work collaboratively to provide hyperacute stroke and TIA services, and will support the development of regional thrombectomy pathway.
The aim of the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is to become a leader in the field of stroke, so you must have procedural and leadership skills combined with a love of teamwork, drive and the ambition to succeed in achieving this goal.
