Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Elderly Medicine (Physician post) at Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust.  This is a replacement post to join a team providing an expanding and comprehensive service for the older patient. .   

We are looking for an applicant with experience in geriatric medicine to join our forward thinking team. The department of Medicine for the Elderly have reconfigured their services over the past few years to ensure a seamless integrated transition from the front door through to discharge. The award winning Frailty Intervention Team (FIT) works in partnership with the ED team to rapidly assess patients with frailty and avoid unnecessary admissions. The team successfully discharge approximately 70% of the patients they review within ED. We also have an Elderly Assessment Unit for frailty (EAU) which aims to provide elements of comprehensive geriatric assessment to patients with frailty in a multidisciplinary environment seeking to again avoid unnecessary admissions. We have 4 base wards on the Hull Royal Site and also provide daily consultant led input to the orthopaedic wards. We work closely with our community geriatrician who are involved with the newly developed Integrated Care Centre for Frailty and also have regular input into local care homes and community based rehabilitation care beds. Our outpatient services include daily rapid access clinics alongside regular general, falls and virtual frailty clinics.

The successful applicant will join our large team of 12 dynamic consultant geriatricians, 6 Specialist Registrars, 21 junior doctors (FY1 – CT level) plus 2 Physicians Associates and our FIT team which includes 4 Frailty Nurse Practitioners. The applicant will be expected to take a senior role based within the department and will have opportunities to attend outpatient clinics FIT sessions, subspeciality training sessions and will be supported to develop specialist interests as desired.

The new applicant will be fully expected to take an active involvement in teaching and clinical governance activities within the department.
