Job overview We are offering an exciting opportunity for the post of Junior Clinical Fellow in the busy Department of Gastroenterology within Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic new member of the team to commence with us as soon as possible following the satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks.

The post will be based on Ward 24, the Gastroenterology ward, within Royal Preston Hospital, working alongside our Consultant Gastroenterologists. It will offer experience in various aspects of Gastroenterology and Acute Medicine. Royal Preston Hospital offers two large endoscopy suites to provide extensive training in endoscopy for the successful applicant.

Previous experience in General Medicine would be desirable, but with a busy Medical Assessment Unit and on-call medical rota, there are a variety of opportunities available to enhance knowledge and experience in this area. 

Main duties of the job The Clinical Fellow will be involved directly with day to day functioning of the Gastroenterology ward (ward 24) and outlying patients. This is a full time post working Monday to Friday, 9-5.

There will be opportunities to perform invasive procedure including ascitic paracentesis (diagnostic and therapeutic) and lumbar puncture. There are also opportunities to attend general and specialised gastroenterology/hepatology clinics and endoscopy lists.

It is anticipated that the appointed candidate will be timetabled to attend one clinic per week with a Consultant, and attend endoscopy lists if required. There are also some optional opportunities to partake in the General Medical on call rota to enhance knowledge and training if required.

What we can offer Job Plan/On-call Requirements The Team The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMCs Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

If you are successful in obtaining a position with our Trust which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check. As a registered body with the DBS, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will conduct the administration of this application on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment or over 3 months. Currently the charges made by the Disclosure and Barring Service for an Enhanced DBS check is £48.20.
