South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust provides emergency care services for the people of South Warwickshire through the Emergency Department at Warwick. The Care Quality Commission has recently rated the trust as ‘Outstanding’ and is the only trust in the region to attain this status. The Trust is a CHKS top hospitals award winner and consistently scores highly in the National Staff Survey with staff recommending the Trust as a place to work or receive treatment. Emergency Department attendances are in the region of 76,000 patients a year.

The Trust is seeking to employ a full time Emergency Medicine Consultant as a replacement post to maintain the established 10 Consultant team. In particular, we are looking to appoint a Consultant to help develop the paediatric clinical emergency pathways.

The Trust has recently invested significantly in improving the emergency flow pathway for patients with a view to promoting links and processes between Emergency and Acute Medicine.

The Emergency Department has a full range of facilities from resus, majors, minor injuries and an observation area. This is an exciting time to join our team as we are expanding our clinical footprint and developing a new Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) area next to our ED X-ray facilities, and also expanding our dedicated Children’s area to provide additional paediatric cubicle space. Further plans involve re-designing our Resuscitation room. The department is supported by an active ambulatory care unit, frailty team to pull patients direct from ED and direct access to both Gynaecology and Surgical Assessment Units to allow us to maintain flow for much of the time.

We have a committed team and run the department as a command and control consultant approach as well have having more direct clinical sessions without the pressure of oversight. We are helped with the running of the department by a fully tiered medical team and ENPs. We are a committed educational department supporting medical students, foundation doctors, GP trainees and higher specialist EM trainees.

Warwick and its surroundings which includes Stratford upon Avon provide access to a very good quality of life, with a wide variety of leisure activities, exceptional quality of schools, easy access to Birmingham or London, as well as being surrounded by the great British countryside.

The Trust employs over 4500 members of staff and has a number of policies and procedures in place to support and develop the workforce, ensuring a good work-life balance. It is an approved organisation to provide the NHS Leadership Academy Mary Seacole Leadership Programme which is delivered ‘in house’. The Trust has an open and engaging culture and is evidenced by our National Staff Survey results.

We are therefore seeking a highly motivated, forward thinking individual to join our team and help develop patient led services that reflect the ongoing changes in emergency healthcare and support our ethos of continual improvement.

With work life balance in mind, we operate an annualised rota aiming for significant rest periods with a high degree of flexibility.

Applicants should possess full GMC registration, FRCEM (or equivalent) and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.

Interested applicants should apply online by clicking the apply button.
