Job Details

We are looking to expand our medical team for Stroke services by creating a new post for an additional Consultant to work alongside our current Consultant. This post will be in partnership with Salford to have the opportunity to do weekend working on the HASU to join the thrombolysis and thrombectomy rota.

You will be an enthusiastic, forward thinking, proactive, innovative clinical leader who puts the patient at the heart of what they do delivering high quality care and organisational performance. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with a wide range of colleagues across professional boundaries. We see this as an exciting opportunity for the right candidate, with an inspirational and visible leadership style, to be able to help us drive and deliver excellent, evolving, Stroke services across Bolton.

In return for your commitment to Bolton we can offer you a fantastic place to work, within a high-performing, very stable Trust, alongside amazing colleagues across multi-disciplinary teams with one goal ‘to provide the best care for our patients’. This isn’t an idle boast as we can demonstrate from our last two CQC inspections (rated ‘Good’ both times), annual reports and our excellent clinical and financial performance. Our most recent Staff Survey results show us that our staff agree that Bolton is an amazing place to work. You will be joining a high performing integrated care Trust. As a Consultant you will be part of a leadership team rated as ‘outstanding’ by the CQC.

The Acute Adult Care Division:

The Acute Adult Care Division is one of four Clinical Divisions in the Trust and includes service such as Emergency Care, Complex Care, Cardio Thoracic and Specialist Medicine in addition to Stroke Medicine. The Division contains the busiest single site Emergency Department in Greater Manchester and has inpatient wards providing acute medicine, rehabilitation and specialist medicine services. It provides a range of specialist out-patient and community services and is committed to providing excellent clinical performance and high quality patient care.

We have a 24 bedded Acute Stroke Unit and deliver a Monday to Friday out patient service for Stroke and TIA referrals. The Unit is supported by a full MDT including stroke specialist nurses, therapists, a clinical neuropsychologist and a Stroke Co-ordinator and has an established combined Early Supported Discharge and Community Stroke Team. We are also currently looking to create an ANP post specifically for stroke. Bolton has an excellent reputation across the GM network with a consistently high Sentinel Stroke National Programme (SSNAP) score. Bolton was the first District General Hospital in Greater Manchester to be ‘A’ rated. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to join the weekend on-call rota (1 in 7) at Salford Hyper acute Stoke Unit to enable you to maintain your skills with thrombolysis and thrombectomy.
Brilliant Bolton NHS FT

Despite a challenging time for the NHS, our trust is one of few in the country that has created and sustained a financial surplus over recent years, whilst making improvements at the same time. The Trust has recently benefited from a £30m investment in its estates and IT. We’ve celebrated a number of successes in recent years, including some national accolades for our services and hard-working staff.

Role specifics and what we offer:

The post is full-time 10 PAs per week with an additional PA for joining the weekend on call rota at Salford but we are happy to consider flexible working requests to suit you.
