Powys Teaching Health Board invites applications for a Consultant Community Paediatrician to join the North Powys Community Paediatrics Team.

This post is substantive and comprise of 10 programmed activities (PAs), but part time and job share applicants are welcome to apply.

Powys Teaching Health Board has many opportunities for service development, including as a Wales Pathfinder Primary Care Organisation. One consultant has a Neurodisability interest and another is a part time lecturer at Cardiff University with links to Swansea University through regular medical student placements. The Health Board uses technology to allow flexible working practices and focuses on community services through service level agreements with neighbouring hospitals for acute paediatric care and tertiary services. General in-reach paediatric clinics are provided by some and referrals are triaged to the most appropriate service.

Based at the Child, Young People and Family Centre in Newtown, Mid Wales this is one of two child development centres providing multidisciplinary services alongside experienced paediatric nursing and allied health professionals. You will join two highly motivated, consultant community paediatricians covering South and Mid Powys and enjoy high levels of continuity of care and job satisfaction.

The paediatricians contribute to an integrated nationally agreed neurodevelopmental assessment pathway, including three specialist nurses. Powys is piloting a Cerebral Palsy register for Wales to improving care and outcomes. We work closely with CAMHS and with an Integrated Disability Service with multiagency representation. An interest in Adoption, Fostering and Looked After Children (LAC) would be welcome.

We have good specialist nurse support and administration for assessment and ongoing care for LAC children. Applications from individuals preferring part time working will be welcomed.
