NHS Grampian is seeking innovative and forward thinking Consultants in Public Health Medicine / Consultants in Public Health to join our progressive Team.
Our posts are based in the beautiful North East of Scotland, however we support a blended approach of home and office working which we expect will continue beyond the pandemic. We offer a relocation package and will make every effort to help partners and families looking for employment and schools. You will be able to work Full time, part-time or flexibly.

The integrated collaborative team comprises Consultants, Nurse Specialists, Public Health Practitioners, Public Health Analysts, Public Health Researchers, Public Health Managers, and Public Health Academics, with established multi-agency working arrangements in place with partners including Local Authorities, Environmental Health, Education Authorities, Health and Social Care, and more.
The current Public Health Emergency has been met with a swift and sustained response from our entire team, strengthening already well-formed partnerships, but our ambition does not end with the pandemic. We have set out a challenging and ambitious strategy to improve population health and tackle health inequalities within our NHS Grampian Clinical Strategy.
Whilst our current focus is on the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are a flexible team and are keen to match the interests, experience and skills of candidates to the needs of our organisation and our Public Health Directorate.
Candidates who bring a passion for addressing inequalities and sustained health improvements are particularly welcomed, as well as experience with the following:
- Managing Health Protection Incidents in addition to routine surveillance and management of Communicable Diseases.
- Using data, research and intelligence to understand complex circumstances, design solutions and drive activity.
- Working in complex political and social environments to shape services and improve the impact on the health of the population.
When you start with us, we will discuss the design of your job plan to reflect your aspirations whether you are an experienced Consultant looking for a new challenge or you are coming out of training into your first Consultant post.
Successful candidates will be given time to undertake supporting professional activities including training and teaching or to pursue sub-specialty interests.
Continuing professional development and research is important to us. We can offer a generous study leave package and the opportunity to develop academic links with the University of Aberdeen, with whom we have several joint appointments.
Candidates must be included on the GMC Specialist Register or UK Public Health Register.
Candidates for Consultant in Public Health Medicine posts who trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
