Job overview

The East Kent Critical Care team provide care for critically ill patients on three intensive care units across our Trust. Our units are staffed by a dedicated and supportive team who pride themselves on their drive for innovation and the support and opportunities we offer to our staff.

Our services across all three units – at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate and the Kent and Canterbury Hospital - have been rated as good by the Care Quality Commission on repeated inspections.

We are now planning a brand new, state-of-the-art, 24-bed unit at the William Harvey Hospital, due to open in spring 2021. It will have cutting edge, modern, high-tech clinical accommodation, and bespoke training facilities including dedicated space for in-situ simulation training.

Our investment in our facilities is matched by our investment in our people, and we are now looking for more doctors and nurses of all grades to join our team.

Main duties of the job

Our vision is to provide high quality, safe, evidence-based care through a genuinely compassionate and collaborative approach, and we support our staff to deliver just that.

There is always scope for career development and four of the nine consultants at Ashford were at the hospital as trainees, demonstrating the quality of the training we provide.

We use the latest technology, including our own ITU echo service, with colleagues trained to the highest standard, and passionate about passing on their expertise and making East Kent a centre of excellence for the service.

We work closely with other specialities including anaesthetics, surgery and medicine, with opportunities to combine specialisms, and cross-specialty morbidity and mortality meetings are well embedded. The teamwork and camaraderie on our units are second to none with regular team building and social events throughout the year.

Working for your organisation

The new Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS), the first in the county, has recently opened in Autumn 2020.  The school, which offers 100 medical school places per year, is a game-changing opportunity and one which the two universities and Kent and Medway trusts have been working towards over several years.  Successful applicants with an interest in medical education or research will be supported in taking up PAs as part of their job plan at the medical school – subject to agreement by KMMS.

The East Kent Critical Care team take part in a range of research to influence future developments in their field, with both national and international portfolio studies as well as in-house research projects.

If you are passionate about critical care and want to work in a progressive and dynamic team, then we want to hear from you!
