Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust

Frimley Park Hospital

Consultant Rheumatologist and General Physician (1 post)

10 PAs (although Consultants wishing to work less than full time or job share are encouraged to apply)

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is a busy, friendly acute hospital in Surrey, 30 miles west of central London. It is close to the picturesque North Downs and the attractive market towns of Farnham and Guildford. It is also easily accessible from west London, from where many consultants commute. There are excellent state and private schools in the area.

Frimley Park Hospital was the first Trust in England to be rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.. The Trust acquired Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals in 2014. The Trust is currently implementing the Epic IT system.

We are looking for a consultant with both Rheumatology and General Medical responsibilities to expand our Rheumatology and General Medical services.

At present the Department consists of 2 full time Rheumatologists / General Physicians and 3 pure Rheumatologists. We have a rheumatology clinical fellow. You will join the 2 rheumatologists covering in-patients on 2 adjoining wards, giving the opportunity for set periods off the wards. The current General Medical post holders also do 3 rheumatology clinics per week. We have a GPSI, three rheumatology specialist nurses (who prescribe and perform intra-articular injections) and a specialist biologic pharmacist.. A special interest will be encouraged. We have a track record of regular publication, with abstracts, letters or papers every year for the last 15 years. We have close regional collaboration in audit, several of which have been published). We work very closely with four consultant MSK radiologists and have full access to diagnostic ultrasound and image guided injection.

There are regular 3-monthly regional postgraduate meetings, led by St Georges. Within the hospital we have a weekly educational meeting on a Friday afternoon and monthly half day departmental and lunchtime MSK radiology meetings. We also have a monthly ILD meeting jointly with respiratory and radiology colleagues, and a 3monthly teleconference with the Royal Brompton. We have a 3 monthly half day clinical meeting with colleagues from the Wexham Park site, with whom we work closely. The Trust participates in medical training, and receives students from St George’s and Southampton Medical Schools.

The Medical Directorate is young, dynamic and supportive and provides hyperacute cardiac and stroke services to large areas of Surrey, North Hampshire and Berkshire. Frimley Park Hospital was rated overall as outstanding by the CQC in 2018..

Participation in the acute general medical on-call is expected. The current frequency is 1:13, though we hope this will reduce with on-going consultant recruitment.

Applicants should have a CCT or CESR in Rheumatology and General Medicine or be within 6-months of achieving this at the time of application.
