Applications are invited for a Consultant Post in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Medicine (10PA) at Nottingham University Hospitals. The post is available from the beginning Jan 2021

Nottingham University Hospitals provide a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services including structured education programmes for people with Type1 and Type 2 diabetes, transitional care for Diabetes and Endocrinology, an insulin pump service and well established antenatal, foot and renal services. Four GP Cluster-based Community Diabetes Services have been developed and receive consultant support.

Outpatient Endocrinology is provided in the Nottingham NHS Treatment Centre. Regional neurosurgical facilities are provided in NUH, and there are well established endocrine surgical services at the Trust and the Treatment Centre for thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal disorders. The service has well established links with paediatric endocrinology (paediatric transition), neurosurgery (joint pituitary clinic and monthly regional MDT meeting), thyroid surgery (including thyroid cancer MDT), adrenal disease (quarterly MDT) and gynaecology (quarterly MDT Turner’s clinic). The endocrine team has recently established clinical service links with the Nottingham Gender Dysphoria Service.

There are excellent links with Departments of Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Vascular Surgery, Pituitary & Endocrine Surgery, Infectious Disease (OPAT services), Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Nephrology & Transplant and Clinical Chemistry.

The post will provide inpatient ward cover to a GIM/specialty ward at the QMC campus (shared equitably with consultant colleagues on a rota basis) and to support the development of inpatient and community diabetes service. Outpatient clinics will be delivered on both campuses and will include Young Person Diabetes Care, Endocrine and Diabetes Foot clinic. The successful candidate will have the option of developing a sub specialised endocrine service.

Full details of the clinical duties of the post are available in the job description, and the post have received Royal College of Physicians approval.

The appointee will be encouraged to support and develop established research and teaching links with Nottingham University. All our Consultants are appointed as Clinical Teachers by Nottingham University.
