These newly created posts are to support the increased workload, expansion and development of our Rheumatology Department, along with the provision of General Medical support.Appointees will join a team of six existing rheumatology consultants, two specialist registrars, four rheumatology nurse specialists, two research nurses and admin and secretarial staff in providing a comprehensive rheumatology service.

It’s an exciting time to be joining the newly formed Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which has resulted from the merger of The Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and Bedford Hospital NHS Trusts.
All positions will be based at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, our 660 bed acute hospital serving a local popupation of approximately 400,000.

These appointments will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).

The hospital has always been renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships. The Trust has University Hospital status with UCL and the Royal Free, which provides an opportunity to strengthen our teaching and R&D programme and brings a more academic environment to the hospital. This department is fully committed to teaching and training both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.

There is easy access to central London and the rural Chilterns. The rural areas include many attractive villages and towns within easy reach, including St Albans and Harpenden. Excellent schools are found nearby.Residence is required within 10 miles by road or 30 minutes travelling time of the hospital.
Applicants must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council’s Specialist Register and have MRCP. Specialist Registrars may apply if within six months of CCT. Candidates unable for personal reasons to work full-time are also invited to apply.

Please note that all shortlisted candidates will be required to attend a pre-interview assessment process involving the completion of an on-line personality profiling assessment, followed by a 1-1 session, a written exercise and a group assessment event at the hospital.
