Consultant in Emergency Medicine
Consultant in Emergency Medicine We are seeking a dynamic individual who will form part of our expanding Emergency Department team to enable us to deliver the highest quality emergency care. The trust consists of two sites, the larger Royal Stoke University hospital and the smaller County hospital situated in Stafford. The £350 million state-of-the-art hospital complex at the Royal Stoke site opened in March 2013 bringing all acute services (including Neurosurgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery) to a single site. The new Emergency Department offers modern facilities including state of the art diagnostics, an 8 bedded resus room, co-located children’s emergency department and assessment unit. This Trust has one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the country and it is known for its high standards of care. An Emergency service is provided to the local residents of North Staffordshire, with a major trauma service covering neighbouring counties. Approximately 120,000 new patents attend the department each year. The Emergency Department makes an important contribution to the success of the management of major trauma at the University Hospital. It offers tertiary level care for patients with major trauma and provides excellent care to critically ill patients. The Department facilitates the safe entry of these patients into the major trauma system, with their ongoing care taking place in other specialities within the Trust. Part of the Department’s contribution to the management of major trauma is the Trauma Team, involving the provision of a non-resident senior Trauma Team Leader at all times. The Trauma Team Leader service is provided by the Consultants and Associate Specialist in A&E. The results of this approach have led to a year on year decrease in the mortality of major injury patients. You will be expected to work with other members of the Emergency Medicine Team to provide first class clinical care in Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine. You will be required to participate fully in the education and training of medical students, junior doctors, paramedics, nursing and other professionals allied to medicine. You will be involved in the supervision and teaching of medical students attached to the department. With the development of the Keele Medical School, excellent opportunities exist for greater involvement in teaching in many different areas of the undergraduate curriculum. You will provide clinical leadership, including delivery of the Clinical Quality Indicators for Emergency Medicine. EM consultants provide shop-floor cover 16 hours a day and resident on-call cover for Major Trauma Centre. You will be expected to take an appropriate share in the management and administrative workload of the Department. All Consultants are involved in planning and developing the service.
A “welcome bonus” and generous relocation package is available for the successful candidate. The Trust’s recruitment premium means that individuals choosing to come and work at UHNM in the role of Consultant in Emergency Medicine will benefit from an additional £18,000 payable in 3 installments of £6,000 at the end of each year following appointment, in addition to their basic salary. We also offer an attractive relocation package of up to £8,000 to successful applicants.
