These posts are ideal for paediatricians who have training in both general paediatrics and neonates and are able to work as part of a Middle grade rota (Registrar level) covering the paediatric service and level 1 SCBU.

The Princess Royal University Hospital serves the London Borough of Bromley in South East London which is the largest of the London boroughs with largest green belt. Bromley has an increasingly diverse and affluent population. The area benefits from affordable housing, excellent local schools (including state grammar and independent options) and has quick and easy access to both Central London and the Kent countryside.

Job Summary:

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of patients under the supervision of a consultant paediatrician. Clinical responsibilities will include:

Neonatal Unit/Children’s Ward- ward rounds, discharge planning, acute admissions and general paediatric work. In hours and out of hours pro-rata Responsibility for either neonatal unit, or Children’s Ward, alternating with the other middle grade doctors. Regular attendance and active participation in outpatient clinics. For appropriate candidates there will be the opportunity to develop a special interest within general duties/outpatient work. Participation in overall supervision and education of junior doctors and medical students. Taking an active part in the department’s education programme. Taking an active part in audit. An audit project is expected in this post. It is expected that Middle grade doctors will assist in providing on-call duties for unexpected sickness/leave of colleagues. In the event of a clinical session being cancelled, the Doctor would be expected to remain available for alternative duties during that session. The duties of the post will include providing advice on medical management of surgical patients and the planning of complex inpatient care.

It may be appropriate for successful applicants to start as a junior clinical fellow (Senior House Officer equivalent). This is an option for those who have not previously working at Registrar level or who are new to the UK and have not previously working in the NHS. This would be reviewed regularly by the senior clinical team and a decision to transition to the Senior Clinical Fellow role (Registrar equivalent) would be a mutually agreed decision with the clinical tutor and educational supervisor.
