Two Posts
Post One – Subspeciality interest in Stone Disease
Post Two – Core Urology with an Interest to complement the service
An opportunity has arisen within NHS Grampian for a further two full time Consultant Urological Surgeons to join ten Consultants in the progressive Urology Department at the major University teaching hospital of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI). ARI provides regional major Pelvic Cancer, Robotic and Stone services to the north of Scotland as well as core Urology to the population of NHS Grampian.
Applicants should have wide knowledge of and experience in all major branches of the specialty including core Urology preferably with specialist interest in Stone surgery and Endourology to complement the department. Alternatively for the second post the unit would look favourably on a Consultant with core Urology skills and an interest in developing a specialist interest in Female, Andrology, Reconstruction or Infertility. The applicant is expected to provide the clinics and day case surgery in a satellite site either Elgin or Stracathro.
Currently, we perform complex Stone surgery including Ureteroscopy (Stone treatment and upper tract diagnostic and treatment of UTTCC) and Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy. The service is supported by a specialist uro-radiologist with interest in stone disease. Also, the department is supported with on-site lithotripsy service run by dedicated team of radiographers and nurses which provide service to the North of Scotland.
We have a developing HOLEP service. The core Urology service is supported by our nurse specialist and physician associate team.
We have strong links to the fertility centre and Gynaecology teams with MDTs already running in Infertility and Urogynaecology
As such we require candidates to be forward thinking and collaborative in their approach to the role and the development of the service across Grampian. In addition to fixed duties, the post offers excellent opportunities for both teaching and research.
The Urology department in Aberdeen in collaboration with University of Aberdeen has led several multicentre randomised control studies in management of stone disease.
The post holder would be expected to participate in a 1 in 10 on call rota
