Junior Clinical Fellow in Renal Medicine

The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites, and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) sites at Denmark Hill in Camberwell and at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site in the London Borough of Bromley.
The King's Renal Unit provides adult nephrology, dialysis and renal transplant clinic services to a diverse patient population, estimated at 1.4m, in south East London. The current work of the Unit includes the care of about 750 patients with end-stage renal failure (ESRF). The Unit provides both in-centre and satellite haemodialysis. The Renal Service also provides a referral and diagnostic service for patients with renal disease in general. This includes outpatient clinics and the facilities for admission for diagnostic procedures. The Unit cares for patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) and admits about 160 AKI cases per year. The Victor Parsons Renal Unit is a twenty-nine bed inpatient area in King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill site). The area is dedicated to the care of renal patients and is staffed by the renal nursing team in two areas, designated Fisk Ward and Cheere Ward. In addition, the Unit has a close working relationship with the ITU and we typically co-manage two to four patients on the ITU at any one time. There are 10 consultants, 4.5 Clinical Renal Specialist Registrars (SpR) and 2-4 SpR research staff who contribute to the SpR on-call rota. There are 7 Renal Senior House Officers (ST-2) and 1 junior clinical fellow participating in a European-Working Time directive compliant 1 in 8 rota. The post is suitable for junior doctor who wishes to gain experience in renal medicine in a tertiary referral centre before applying for ST3 posts. The post holder will become familiar with all aspects of Renal Medicine in both the in-patient and out-patient settings. The post offers excellent experience in the care of acutely ill patients with a variety of medical and surgical problems and the post holder will become skilled in caring for patients with multi-organ failure. In addition the post holder will attend outpatient clinics on a regular basis and participation in audit and research projects is actively encouraged.
Potential candidates should have at least 6 months experience at Senior House Officer level in the United Kingdom. Applicants are required to have GMC registration.
