Location (Site): Hull Royal Infirmary/Castle Hill Hospital
Applications are invited for the position of Consultant Anaesthetist to join the existing team of 63 Consultant Anaesthetists. This is a new post to accommodate increase in theatre activity.
The Consultant Anaesthetist will provide Anaesthetic services with sessions in Pre-assessment, Upper GI and Neurosurgery.
The post holder will also provide 1 in 18 on call cover for CEPOD Theatres in Hull Royal Infirmary
The advertised post gives an opportunity for a session in pre-assessment clinic.
We have a well-equipped CPEX testing suite with nursing support to run the clinic. Successful candidates will have an opportunity to choose a session and expected to run clinics, sorting out problems identified by nurse led assessments and good communication with referral teams. If interested they can start doing CPET clinics depending on their level of experience and there is an opportunity to learn.
We are pleased to develop a recent pre- assessment project where the service has been unified under one leadership with changes including standardisation and electronic records for pre-assessment.
The post involves providing Anaesthetic services to Upper Gastrointestinal surgery and Neurosurgery.
The Upper GI services are based at Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham. The anaesthetic provision is for laparoscopic interventions including Rou-en-Y gastric bypass, cancer resections, cholecystectomies, hiatus hernia repair. Castle Hill Hospital is a tertiary referral centre for Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Surgery such as Oesophagectomies, Gastrectomies, Whipple’s procedure.
Acute neurosurgical services are based in Hull Royal Infirmary, Hull which include elective and emergency craniotomies, interventional radiological procedures for treating tumours and aneurysms and complex spine surgery. There is an elective spine surgery service in Castle Hill Hospital.
Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a University Teaching Hospital with 1293 beds and an annual budget of £481 million. The Trust supports a variety of tertiary services and is both a Major Cancer Centre and Major Trauma Centre. The East Riding of Yorkshire is a very popular place to live. It extends to several well-known East Coast resorts as well as containing the Yorkshire Wolds and Yorkshire Moors.
