Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in General Neurology for this exciting new post developed as part of new collaborative working between Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust to drive forward a comprehensive and transformational Neurological Service for the East Yorkshire and Humber region.

Neuroscience services in Hull have developed rapidly over the last few years and there is an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and transformation. Hull is a busy regional Neuroscience centre with Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, Neurophysiology, Stroke and Rehabilitation departments with access to psychological services.  You will join a team of 7 Consultant Neurologists and 3 speciality doctors, each having a specialist area of interest.   Services are based predominantly at Hull Royal Infirmary and across Grimsby and Scunthorpe hospitals. The successful applicant will have the option of developing a specialist interest clinic and will contribute to the development of services in this transformative environment.

The Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute services from two hospital sites with some specialised services serving a tertiary catchment area of 1.2 million residents.  Both Trusts are affiliated to the Hull York Medical School along with the Universities of Hull and York.

The successful candidate will work one day per week at either Grimsby or Scunthorpe to manage inpatient referrals and a face- to-face outpatient clinic.  The remaining clinical activity will be conducted/co-ordinated at the Hull Royal Infirmary site.  The post-holder will participate in a 1:6 or 1:7 Neurology on-call rota after hours and at weekends.   This out of hours’ activity carries an additional PA. The successful candidate will not be expected to be involved in the education and supervision of trainees or medical students in the first year of employment, but will be given the option of adjusting this in subsequent job plans.

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the development of a truly collaborative, innovative and sustainable service within a forward-thinking team.
