CONSULTANT IN CHILD & ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRY 

Appointment of Full Time post 

 Full time 10 sessions

Based at St Cadoc’s Hospital, Caerleon, South East Wales 

Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for  Consultant post in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry to join our service.

The service provides specialist NHS child & adolescent mental health services for the Aneurin Bevan Health Board. The service has recently undergone a redesign to enhance the multidisciplinary mix and has adopted the Choice & Partnership Approach to managing outpatient work.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team including another Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychology and Community nursing professionals. The vacancy is in one of the 3 community teams, the one covering the county boroughs of Caerphilly, Monmouth & Blaenau Gwent. There is a single directorate referral management system and each community team has weekly team meetings for case discussion and supervision.

The service includes specialist multidisciplinary teams with responsibility for substance misuse in young people, primary mental health care services, children in the youth justice system, children with learning disability and mental disorders, Neurodevelopmental assessment and eating disorders. There is a day hospital for 12-17 year olds and a specialist assessment team for primary school age children.

There are close links with child health and therapies services and adult mental health services within the health board and good links with local authority education and children social services. In patient services are provided on an all Wales basis in Bridgend There is a strong research presence in the service with good success in obtaining research funding and awards. We also have a major involvement in the development of national strategy with the Welsh Government.

Please note that due to further modernisation and integration of the three community into two teams you may be expected to in reach into either team.

This position involves Regulated Activity with children as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

  • Enhanced check with barred list information, including a children’s barred list check.

Applicants must hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.
