We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Acute Care Pathway, working in the Acute ward, Hawthorns 2, Parklands Hospital, Basingstoke.

This inpatient role stands out from other acute psychiatric inpatient roles currently advertised because of the total medical time for the ratio of patients.

The post-holder will have a maximum of 12 inpatients at any point in time. They will have the support of a full time middle grade doctor (Specialty Doctor or higher trainee) as well as 2 junior doctors. We have deliberately resourced the post in this way to ensure quality of care to our patients, to prevent burnout amongst clinicians, to allow medical teaching and supervision to junior doctors, to maintain turnover, to share tribunal report writing, ensure excellent physical health monitoring, allow medics to contribute to service development and quality improvement and allow an off-site PA per week to be taken by the post-holder.

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust is a clinically led organisation, operationally supported and driven by patient centered care. We employ around 6,000 people and provide specialist mental health services, learning disability services, and community health care services. Our vision is: ‘To provide high quality, safe services which improve the health and wellbeing, independence and confidence of the people we serve.’ Transformational change and visionary people, are needed in order for us to achieve our goals: far greater inclusion of patients and carers in the delivery of services; closer integration of our mental and physical health services with primary, acute and social care, and much more involvement of clinical staff in the leadership and design of improved services. We are committed to the development of your career and believe that by supporting, developing and nurturing our staff we will deliver outstanding patient care.

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible. Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.

We have a lot to offer and look forward to talking with you about the opportunities available. We strongly encourage an informal visit to the team prior to the interview.
