LAS ST4-6 Emergency Medicine Doctor

Applications are invited from highly motivated and dynamic Doctors for a fixed term period.

We are seeking to appoint a LAS ST4-6 Doctor to join our experienced and trusted team who work together to meet the challenges of Emergency Medicine, and you could join us.

This post will provide excellent clinical experience, with the opportunity for personal development. The successful candidate will take part in the full ‘Middle Grade’ rota. Duties will include daytime, night and weekend shifts in all areas of the department.

Whilst not recognised as a formal training slot this post is to cover an ST4-6 on leave, and there are training and development opportunities.

Protected teaching takes place one afternoon every week in a programme run jointly with ITU and there are further opportunities to attend Clinical Governance and M&M meetings, breakfast and educational meetings. One SPA is provided each week to encourage training, audit and career development with simulation, life support and up-skilling opportunities as well as support for those working towards RCEM examinations. Applications for CESR are actively encouraged and supported. The Emergency Department Consultants provide cover from 8am to midnight seven days a week and there is scope to train in Ultrasound and the possibility to achieve the necessary experience and supervision for Level 1 sign off.

This department is truly flexible and open to new ideas; why not come and discuss your needs.

This post would suit someone who has previous experience of working in Emergency Medicine at a middle grade level and would like a new challenge. The position also provides an excellent opportunity to work towards RCEM examinations if these qualifications are not already held.

The Trust serves a population of 330,000 for emergency and general hospital services, mainly from West Surrey, East Hampshire and North Sussex and 1.3 million people for cancer services. The Trust celebrated its 150th birthday on 27 April 2016. We have good working relationships with Guildford and Waverley CCG, and Surrey Heartlands STP.

As a NHS Foundation Trust, we have a 32-strong Council of Governors and over 8,000 public members. The hospital has an annual income of more than £200 million and employs around 3,500 people, making us one of Guildford’s largest employers.

Each year the Trust sees around 215,000 outpatients, admits 58,500 patients for treatment and 70,000 patients attend our Emergency Department. The Trust is also a centre of excellence and training for minimal access surgery and regional hub for ENT and pathology services.
