Applications are invited for a substantive post within the Anaesthetic Department at Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust.

This is a  full time post based at both hospitals. On call duties include providing anaesthetic services for emergency surgery, maternity, paediatric emergencies for stabilisation and transfer, ICU cover on a 1 in 9 basis.

The role is divided between Pain Medicine and Anaesthetics. The Pain Team consists of 1 Consultant plus two vacant positions, 1 Acute/Chronic Pain Sister, 2 Acute/Chronic Pain Nurses and 1 Chronic Pain Health Care Assistant, for outpatients and inpatients. The Pain Team see’s on average 1300 new patients per year. This is an opportunity to take the Pain Service forward, developing the service within the Hospital. We have a close link with the Psychologist and GP with special interest in Pain Management, and Specialist Physiotherapist.

The department covers a wide range of surgical specialties including General, Urology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Day Case ENT Surgery, Dental Surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery and Intensive Care. There is a Supra Regional Spinal Injuries Unit at the Southport Hospital site and an acute and chronic pain service exists on both sites

The successful candidate should be willing to integrate into an established and supportive Anaesthetic department 

All applicants must be either on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their CCT award at the time of interview. The posts are due to commence with the Trust as soon as possible. 

You will be joining an enthusiastic Anaesthetic Team. The Department of Anaesthesia consists of 19 Consultants, 3 Associate Specialists, 13 Specialty Doctors, 3 ST3’s, 8 core trainees including ACCS trainee providing an Anaesthetic service to the Trust which is based on two main sites at Southport & Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. The trainee feedback both locally and via the GMC survey over the last 2 years had shown we provide excellent training for junior trainees.
