Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHNFT) and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC) are seeking to jointly appoint a Consultant in Public Health to be hosted by BHNFT.

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic public health 12 months locum consultant to provide public health leadership in Barnsley and support the on-going COVID-19 response and recovery.  This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced public health consultant to work for Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - one of the leading NHS trusts in the country and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council - a high achieving council: Finalist for the 2016 LGC Council of the Year and shortlisted in 8 categories for the 2018 LGC awards, including for Public Health and holder of the Investors in People Gold Award.  

You will work in a supportive environment within committed, enthusiastic and ambitious teams – both within the Trust and in the council.

It is an exciting opportunity to work across the Barnsley health and social care landscape, supporting the NHS and the council to help protect the population from the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, support recovery for health and the wider social and economic systems, improve health and wellbeing of the people of Barnsley and reduce health inequalities across the borough.

We see the post as a key appointment in our aspiration to bring about improvement in health and wellbeing in a complex health and social care environment. COVID-19 has presented all of us with an unprecedented challenge, and you will be providing the specialist expertise and leadership within the field of health protection and improvement that will help us respond to this.. You will be required to have a high level of tact, diplomacy and the leadership experience to advise elected members, trust board members and senior officers on evidence based approaches to infection and outbreak control, commissioning and providing health protection and improvement with a special focus on the most vulnerable people and reducing health inequalities.  

The successful individual will demonstrate highly developed influencing, negotiation and motivation skills to drive transformational change across the health agenda.
