Full-time (1.05 FTE) – Older Persons and Rehabilitation Ward and Community
We are looking for a dynamic Specialist Geriatrician with great skills to join the Older Persons and Rehabilitation team at Lakes DHB.
The Lakes Older Persons and Rehabilitation Service
Our excellent team is based in a purpose built 16-bedded ward that provides care for older patients and those requiring rehabilitation or who have suffered a stroke. Our team consists of one other geriatrician, a geriatric nurse specialist, a registrar and house officer as well an excellent interdisciplinary team of allied health professionals and nurses. We are committed to providing the best outcomes for our patients.
We also provide outpatient and community assessments in both Rotorua and Taupo. We work closely with our surgical and anaesthetic colleagues and anticipate the development of a perioperative frailty service in the near future. We run a specialist Parkinson’s disease interdisciplinary clinic and also a memory clinic. We have close links with our physician colleagues, older person mental health services, NASC, and our community based colleagues. We are planning for future SMO growth in this service.
In response to a local aging population we anticipate the development of an acute in patient geriatric service that would be well placed to provide advice to our orthopaedic and surgical teams. The development of this service will be a will be a key part of this role.
Rotorua hospital is responsible for the teaching and supervision of 4th and 6th year medical students and medical registrars in training: you will be expected to help support this learning.
You may be expected to participate in the weekend acute medical call roster.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for applicants with specialist training in geriatric medicine that are either vocationally registered with the New Zealand Medical Council (NZMC) or for overseas trained applicants who would be eligible for vocational registration.
