Job Details

Are you a GP looking for a challenging and rewarding role that allows for a great work life balance?  Would you like to be part of an organisation committed to patient care and service improvement? Would you like to be able to play a key role in forming how the GP network on the Island works?

If this sounds like you and you want to work somewhere that invests in you and your career, where you can make a real difference to the lives of the Island’s residents and the service we provide to them, we want to hear from you.

Working as a Salaried Locum GP on the Isle of Man will provide you with lots of variety, as well as a great way to see how different practices work. Contracts of up to 0.6 FTE are available and these contracts are for a limited term of 3 years.

You will be joining the Department while it is undergoing a big transformation programme, meaning you will also be a part of the development of world leading, integrated healthcare delivery.

About the role and our team

You will be part of a small, dedicated team benefitting from one to one support which will enable you to build effective relationships.

You will be supported by the Primary Care Services team for administrative tasks and your calendar bookings, as well as the team being your first point of contact for any queries.

You will provide locum cover for a 4 hour period each weekday morning and afternoon. Within that timeframe there will be a 2.5 hour clinical session. In the remaining 1.5 hours will allow for any over-run of the clinic, to see any additional emergency patients, complete paperwork, and to undertake reasonable duties allocated by the practice, for example telephone consultations and home visits.

You will provide daytime locum cover for the 11 GP Practices across the Isle of Man and will be supported by the Primary Care Services Team who will co-ordinate your calendar and provide administrative support.

If you also choose to work out of hours shifts at the Manx Emergency Doctors Service you will work as a Bank GP and will be supported by a team of other GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Urgent Care Practitioners and Receptionists.

An enhanced with barring police check is required for this post and the Department will cover the cost of this.

Of course, you will need a full driving licence to enable you to enjoy the unpressured commutes and relatively short journeys between practices through the stunning Isle of Man environment.

You will receive a regular CPD allowance to maintain your skills.

What can this role offer me?

By joining us you’ll be stepping away from NHS pressures and demands, as the Islands healthcare system is similar but separate to the UK NHS.

You will have great opportunities for development and portfolio working in all sorts of areas within the Island’s Health Service.  The Department is going through an exciting transformation period and GPs have the opportunity to be part of discussions and solutions.
