The Welsh Blood Service (WBS) is immensely proud of the vital role it plays in modern healthcare, striving to save and transform lives through the generosity of donors. We provide an essential service for NHS Wales in ensuring that it has access to blood to support the treatment of patients, in support of the transplant programmes and in the work of the Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry. The range of services we deliver are broad, multifaceted and highly specialised, underpinned by a clear commitment to continue to improve, to provide excellent services and to promote health and wellbeing for the people of Wales and beyond.

We are looking for a Consultant in Transfusion Medicine/Patient Blood Management to join our organisation on a permanent full-time basis. The successful candidate will join a small team of consultants providing a medically led service for the WBS with the post holder covering all aspects of transfusion medicine.  The appointee will specifically provide strategic direction and clinical leadership & governance for Patient Blood Management (PBM), working with a dedicated PBM team based in the WBS and a National Oversight Group within Wales. The post holder will also provide transfusion medicine expertise for Cwm Taff Health Board for 2 sessions per week. 

There will be an opportunity to take on the role of assistant Medical Director for the WBS with more capacity to develop clinical leadership and governance across the organisation, NHS in Wales and internationally.

The successful candidate must have full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. Applicants that are UK trained, must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by the date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
