The Institute of Health Sciences Education are recruiting to an exciting new part-time (0.6 FTE) post in Medical Education. This post is funded through the Chadburn Lectureship scheme “to provide opportunities for doctors in training, whose personal circumstances make it difficult or impossible for them to give full-time commitment to their careers.” Applicants need to be doctors who have not yet completed training.

This post is for a minimum of two but potentially five years, depending on successful applicant’s preference, focusing on clinical and communication skills education and how to successfully embed these into the clinical environment. There will be two main elements of the role: supporting teaching within the Clinical and Communications Skills Unit, and acting as Year 3 Trust Liaison Lead for clinical and communication skills. This new liaison role would involve developing and maintaining close links with faculty in our Trusts in order to align clinical skills teaching across all our sites, share best practice, deliver some teaching and support faculty development. The role will also bring opportunities for a wider experience in medical education including online learning, assessment, curriculum development, evaluation and educational research, a diverse range of teaching modalities, and support in gaining an educational qualification.

This would be a perfect post for those with an interest in medical education and an enthusiasm for clinical and communication skills teaching and learning.

Within the Centre for Medical Education, the Clinical and Communication Skills Unit (CCSU) is responsible for delivery of the undergraduate clinical and communication skills curriculum and to promote integration of these complementary skills within the evolving curriculum.

The Lecturer would be expected to maintain a licence to practice and undertake some clinical work in addition to this post, however the Lecturer must work part-time overall – taking into account both educational and clinical duties.

Applicants should have some experience of teaching methods for communication including small group learning, role-play and incorporation of patient feedback. They should also have experience of teaching clinical skills in simulation and some bedside teaching.

The post is 0.6 FTE and on a Fixed-Term contract for a minimum of two years but potentially up to five years in duration. Salary will be in the range of £47,018 - £58,672 per annum (pro-rata). Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave (pro rata), pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Informal enquiries before application would be welcomed to Dr Graham Easton, on g.easton@qmul.ac.uk
