Permanent, Full Time, 40 hours

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled and passionate clinical leader to join NHS Tayside to lead and influence the co-creation of world class mental health services delivered through a system where the people who receive and the professionals who deliver care are treated as equal partners.

We are looking for a highly motivated Associate Medical Director who is committed to making a real difference to the mental health of the Tayside population by delivering new ways to improve the quality of experience, care and treatment people living with mental ill health and learning disability receive to enhance their overall health and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will have significant expertise, experience, and the highest level of specialist knowledge attained within the field of Mental Health.  You will provide leadership to a team of Clinical Directors and Leads to support the work of specialist Mental Health and Learning Disability Services across Tayside and will work in partnership with Medical Leads in Integration Joint Boards and be a key member of the NHS Tayside Medical Leadership Team. 

The role will involve making a significant contribution in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies for Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Tayside; this will include service re-design, ongoing application of a quality improvement approach and implementation of associated, robust, medical workforce plans.

As a member of the Mental Health Integrated Leadership Group you will demonstrate critical and constructive behaviours of a senior clinical manager, promoting clear service vision and the acceptance of personal / professional responsibility for the delivery of high-quality care by all medical staff and clinical leaders from other disciplines through meaningful engagement, effective job planning, professional appraisal and performance management.  This will include the deployment of staff to ensure high-quality and safe clinical cover in and out-of-hours, medical recruitment, and the establishment and maintenance of comprehensive, service orientated clinical job plans which reflect the wide range of added value opportunities required in the service – to include research, education, and service improvement.

In this role you will lead clinical input for the strategic and operational plans for the Tayside Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy and its Whole System Change Programme of re-design and transformation.
