This is an exciting time to join our highly successful, established and forward-thinking Public Health Directorate, as the experienced and committed team navigates and leads a significant and high profile programme of work to support the emergency and contingency planning to tackle the public health challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, and continues values-driven core service delivery within complex social and political landscapes.
As part of the Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) Board’s recovery planning, you will play a pivotal role in:
- supporting the delivery of our ambitious "Turning the Tide" Public Health Strategy, which sets out our journey to become an exemplar in Public Health for which there is commitment and support, and
- accelerating the improvement in health life expectancy within GGC, and between GGC and the rest of Scotland for both men and women by 2028.
As the largest board you will have maximum opportunity to influence national policy, and together with fellow members of the Public Health Team and our close partners in Health and Social Care (HSCP), you will provide expert public health advice and leadership. This will support and inform an evidence-based approach within ethical frameworks for developing high quality equitable services, across primary, secondary and social care, and across sectors including local authorities, voluntary organisations and extremely close working with the Glasgow Centre for Population Health to improve health and tackle inequality.
Joining with another 8 consultants and with more being recruited, you will be part of distributed collective leadership with excellent support from e-health and dedicated public health analysts to contribute to epidemiological work. You can develop a flexible portfolio dependent on your skills and preferences, and will be strongly supported to undertake training and study to develop your portfolio. Our working covers 6 local authorities meaning consultants can take a lead role with an individual local authority and HSCP. The team also maintain international links with Public Health partners in cities in Pakistan and USA.
We are looking to appoint two new colleagues to the post of Consultant in Public Health Medicine where the successfully appointed candidates will help shape decisions over a range of public health functions, operating and influencing across ambitious and far-reaching programmes of work which will have significant impact for improving health and wellbeing for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde population.
